day: Transfer to Orinoquia
Lodge. Walk to a vantage point
We pick you up at the airport. Our lodge is situated on the banks of
the Orinoco River, about 20 minutes from the airport. It is designed
in the typical native style. After lunch we walk to a vantage point
where we have a splendid view over the the Orinocio River.
day: Flight to Culebras
Early in the morning we drive to the airport of Pto. Ayacucho and fly
with a charter plane southwards. We overfly the Autana Tepui the
sacred mountain of the indians. This mountain looks like a finger.
After overfly huge jungle aera you can see at the horizon the
Huachamakari Tepui and the Duida Marahuaca Tepui. We land at the grass
runway of Culebras. Our host Franzisco brings us to our camp about 10
min. upriver. We take the dug-out to reach the camp. In the afternoon
we make a trip to the Caño Negro, a black water river.
day: Boat trip on Cunucuruma river
After breakfast we take our boats to go the Cunucuruma downriver. We
stop at a big rapid which we have to by-pass and we have the
possibility to take a refreshing bad. We visit an indian village which
on the riverfront.
day: Boat trip to El Cejal
Today our trip continues on the Cunucuruma river, passing the indian
village Acanaña. After a short visit we continue our trip until we
reach the confluence of the Curucuruma and the Orinoco. We catch sight
of a huge expanse of water in front of us and get an idea of the
Orinoco size. We continue upriver until El Cejal, a Yanonami village,
situated in the rainforest. Until today the Yanonami has kept their
traditions. Even if they were a little influenced by the civilisation.
day: Flight over the Casiquiare till San Carlos de Río Negro. Boat
trip to Piedra de Cocuy.
We take the boat until Tama Tama. The mission takes care of the indian
villages. From here we overfly the Río Casiquiare where the two
gigant rivers meet: Amazonas and Orinoko. The Casiquiare is a nature
paradise with an unique variety of colors and forms.
During the dry season the contrast between the white beaches and the
black water is fantastic to see. Finally we land in San Carlos a small
jungle village with a nice atmosphere. You get the impression that the
time has stopped here. We go on by boat to Piedra de Cocuy where we
overnight in an ordinary camp.
day: Hike to Cocuy where the three countrys
After breakfast we hike to the Cocuy rock. We only take our small day
pack. The climb takes all the day. We climb through rainforest to the
top and have a fantastic view of the rainforst. In the afternoon we
return to our camp.
day: Journey to San Gabriel de Cachoeira
We pass the venezuelan border and now starts a three day trip through
the amazonas region. Day by day the Río Negro gains range. Some
indian villages are situated on the riverfront. The temperature is
between 26°C-32°C, but our Bongo has a sunroof so its quite
pleasent. The white beaches and the clear refreshing water invites us
to relex. We overnight at different beaches with hammocks and mosquito
After 2-3 days we reach San Gabriel. The trees are much higher and the
Río Negro is very range at this place. We stay at the Kings Island
Lodge, on a small island in front of San Gabriel.
day: Flight or boat trip to Manaus
From San Gabriel we can take the plane or the steamboat to Manaus.

walking shoes, light cotton trousers, long-sleeved shirt,
rain-protection, bathing suit, sleeping bag, sun protection/sun
blocker, hat or scarf, insect repellent, waterbottle, pocket lamp.
Please take as little baggage as possible (max. 10 kilos), because the
space in the plane and the canoe is limited.
